Multi-Channel Marketing - Network Marketing with a Twist

Studies have shown that customers who buy from two channels (vs. just one) are between 20 and 60% more valuable, while triple-channel buyers are 60-125% more valuable! Plus, multichannel shoppers have a lower attrition rate and buy a wider range of products. - Direct Marketing Association, 2008

The Body Shop, world renowned purveyor of toiletries and cosmetics, is making a splash in the Direct Selling arena with it's party plan sales channel, The Body Shop at Home. In addition to stores in shopping malls and their online e-tailing site, The Body Shop has fully embraced the concept of Multi-Channel Marketing. Other direct sales companies have followed suit, as there are now Avon stores popping up in shopping centers across the United States, and many direct selling companies now have consultant websites.

But what is this multi-channel marketing all about?

Simply put, multi-channel marketing is the concept of offering your product to the customer when they want, in the way they want. Some people prefer face-to-face sales, some prefer traditional mail order catalogs, while others prefer online shopping. Most customers, however, participate in a combination of those methods, and multi-channel marketing aims to meet the customer where they are to serve them better.

At Rich Schefren's StrategicProfits Live event, MaryEllen Tribby, publisher of Early to Rise e-zine said that "multi-channel marketing is good for the customer and it's good for your business!" In fact, Tribby identifies two problems that are solved by taking a multi-channel approach:

"As a marketer, you reach your customer in the way he/she wants to be reached. Plus, you are... converting this person to a paying customer."

How do you translate this into your direct sales/network marketing business? How do you capitalize on multi-channel selling?

First, take full advantage of your company's selling options. Catalogs, consultant websites, brochures, and any other sales tools that your company provides are tested, trusted materials to help move you through the sales process. But don't stop there.

Second, establish your own personal website that promotes you as an expert in your field. I write about this so often, but it bears repeating: YOU are your company's best product, and you can't find it in any catalog! Create an online presence for yourself.

Third, develop a newsletter and maintain a mailing list, be it electronic or "snail mail", that you contact on at least a monthly basis. Create and establish customer loyalty through physical as well as electronic methods.

Fourth, use the phone constructively - customer follow up calls are NOT cold calling, and should be done on a regular basis. Sometimes a client has a question or concern and doesn't connect with you because they are busy. You need to be in contact - before your competition is.

Ultimately, network marketing is about connecting with people. The best way to connect is, as Viktor Frankl wrote, to meet them where they are. Whether by mail, phone, web, in store, or in person, it is clear that the multi-channel marketer is poised to become even more successful and valuable to their clientele as the years tick on.

Recent Updates to the Dish Network Channel Packages

Dish Network is continually trying to meet the needs of their viewers by improving the Dish Network channel packages. This is one of the ways that Dish keeps their customers satisfied. The Dish Network channel packages are frequently being updated with new channels not only to please their current customers but also to appeal to new customers. Here are some of the recent additions to the Dish Network channel packages:

Bridges TV

Bridges TV is the American Muslim lifestyle Network offered in the English language. Bridges TV has sitcoms, movies, cooking shows, cartoons, and news reports that are relevant to Muslim culture. Bridges TV is now offered nationwide via Dish Network. One of the most popular programs on the channel is Each Other, a show about a Muslim woman in the United States who is trying to make it as a reporter in New York. Bridges TV is just one example of Dish Network's multi-cultural television channels (Dish offers about sixteen different international packages, each in a different language).

Bridges TV will certainly increase the Dish Network audience adding a whole new market that will find interest in Dish Network channels. With already more than seven million Muslim Americans and growing, there is a large audience for this new additional channel. There is also hope that Bridges TV will help bring a greater understanding to this often misunderstood religion. The Bridges TV addition to the Dish Network channel lineup will definitely give the viewer more options. Bridges TV can be found on channel 578.

Voom HD Channels

High Definition Television (HDTV), a digital television format, gives a superior sound and picture quality. HDTV has a very high resolution, about twice that of conventional television. Voom is a company that offered the largest range of HDTV programming but is now no longer in business. In order to increase the Dish Network channel offering, Dish Network has purchased Voom's satellite. This gives Dish customers the chance to watch several original Voom HD channels

The new addition of these Voom channels makes Dish Network's HD package the best in the nation. Viewers now have access to channels such as RUSH HD, Gallery HD, Rave HD, Ultra HD, Equator HD, Monsters HD, Animania HD, Majestic HD, HD News and Guy TV HD. These channels have programs on fashion, fiction, travel, science, music concerts and much more. The addition of these high-definition channels to the current Dish Network channel packages definitely enhances what Dish has to offer for their viewers.

Eventual Addition of a Karaoke Channel

There are future plans to add a Dish Network channel that will allow one to karaoke with the use of this new channel. This will be the nation's first interactive Karaoke channel and will change the way Dish Network is viewed. A Karaoke channel adds a whole new dimension on television programs and how they are used.

This Karaoke channel comes from Sound Choice and was created by OpenTV Corporation. Dish Network customers will have a choice of two play lists with ten songs each that will change every two weeks. These songs will range in style and genre from hip-hop to country. Viewers will be given a chance to try it out for free before subscribing to see what it is all about. This will be a new and exciting addition to the current Dish Network channel packages.

The additions of Bridges TV, Voom channels, and the eventual addition of a karaoke channel, all will enhance the Dish Network channel line-up. These additions will add to the great possibilities available with Dish Network. These Dish Network channel additions will give more to viewers.

New Wedding Cable Network Channel Coming

Is this a good idea or not? That's the question that needs to be asked after Rainbow Media, the programming arm of Cablevision, announced that they will be launching a new wedding-themed cable channel, according to several executives familiar with plans. This is the same company that owns WE, or Women's Entertainment channel, which hosts some wedding shows already such as "Bridezillas," which is in its sixth season. Other wedding shows on WE include: "Amazing Wedding Cakes," "My Fair Wedding" and "Platinum Weddings."

Supposedly these wedding shows trend higher than much of their other fare. It will be 24 hours a day of wedding themed shows such as the ones above, how-to shows, and movies concerning weddings. For all we know, there might be a wedding news segment, a wedding music segment, and of course there will need to be celebrity weddings and the like.

In what's turning out to be the crowded world of cable television networks, this network, of which we're not sure when it's going to begin, will be competing with many other networks geared towards women's entertainment. We already mentioned WE, but there are Lifetime movies, Fit TV, SOAP, HGTV, Oxygen, Style, and a host of shopping channels that mainly feature products for women. Wedding themed shows, while they may appeal to upcoming brides, will have their hands full if they have to compete 24/7 with these other channels.

At the same time, having a channel that also includes many how-to's might not be the worst thing in the world. There's always talk that one show will contain items produced by Conte Nast, the owners of Modern Bride magazine, and possibly more, since Conte Nast has worked with WE in producing many shows in the past.

It's already known that the wedding shows on WE will be moved to the new wedding channel so WE can concentrate more on parent-themed shows such as the upcoming "The Mom Show," "Raising Sextuplets" and "Adoption Diaries." It will be interesting to see what types of movies they'll be bringing to the channel. Some might be easy, such as "The Wedding Planner," whereas a movie like "Monster-In-Law" might be borderline.

Also, it's possible that the new wedding channel might try to get wedding shows on other channels to come to their channel. Can you imagine CMT's "My Big Redneck Wedding Show" next to TNT's new "Wedding Day", or Style's "Whose Wedding Is It Anyway?" following "Say Yes to the Dress" The skies the limit; let's see whether the audience is also limitless.
